Finlandia-Hiihto has a new track manager and event director.

The organization of Finlandia Hiihto will undergo changes for the 2024 ski events, as we welcome a new track manager. Additionally, the roles of the secretary-general and marketing manager have been combined into the position of event director.

The world of cross-country skiing is full of dynamic action, and Finlandia Hiihto wants to stay up to date. The reforms made for the spring 2023 ski event will continue, which will also impact the staff structure. Finlandia Hiihto will continue to provide the best possible event for both skiers and spectators.

Markku Levanen appointed as Event Director

Having served a long tenure as Secretary-General, Tiina Hernesniemi is transitioning to new roles at Lahti Ski Club. The Secretary-General position will not be refilled; instead, the entire operation will be led by Event Director Markku Levanen. Over the past year, Levanen has acted as the Marketing Manager for Finlandia Hiihto and has extensive experience in the activities and development of the Lahti Ski Club's cross-country skiing section as well as leadership roles in various companies.

"We want to thank Tiina for her significant contribution to the traditional winter sports event. Finlandia Hiihto is an institution that has long culminated in Tiina's tremendous work," says Levanen, who began his role as Event Director on July 1, 2023.

Heikki Kivikko becomes Track Manager

In early July, Finlandia Hiihto also welcomed a new track manager. Jukka Lehtinen, who is intimately familiar with the trails and bases of Salpausselkä, is stepping down from the track manager role. He is succeeded by Heikki Kivikko, who has extensive experience from various roles in skiing competitions and events and possesses a deep knowledge of the area's terrains.

"The route and conditions of Finlandia Hiihto have always been a matter of pride for us, even if we've grappled with challenging winters. Jukka, with his vast expertise, has always created the best possible tracks for skiers along with his team. A big thank you to Jukka," continues Levanen.

Changes in the Finlandia Hiihto organization are a step towards more flexible and efficient operations required by event organization, both financially and operationally. Finlandia Hiihto remains committed to offering a high-quality and responsibly organized event for participants and partners. With this, they ensure fundraising to support the junior activities of Lahti Ski Club and Hollolan Urheilijat -46.
